La Mesita Ranch Estate boasts four unique cottages, and one Grande Hacienda. Each of these “residences” are unique onto themselves, with art, and décor that bring together ancient and modern, and that speak to the land and culture of the Pueblo of Pojoaque. The residences were designed by legendary architect John Gaw Meem, who actually created the Territorial style of homes here in New Mexico.
Perhaps what is most unique about a stay at La Mesita is that you and your guests will be the only guests on property. The property is reserved for one group at a time, and there are really no words to describe the sheer bliss of waking up in an historic pueblo inspired cottage, on 140 acres of sprawling fields of green, a world class Equestrian Center just steps away, and the faint sounds of horses neighing in the early morning. Welcome to La Mesita Ranch Estate, the quintessential Santa Fe / Northern New Mexico experience.
The Grand Hacienda
Welcome to the Grand Hacienda. The Grand Hacienda is the largest of the residences on our estate. It is sophisticated, historic, and luxurious, featuring 4 bedrooms, 7 bathrooms, 5 fireplaces, a “great room”, a steam room, a library with a black jack table (dealer available!!), massage room, formal dining room, informal dining room, Butler’s pantry, with washer dryer, and various “inner” courtyards. All of the art and décor in the Grande Hacienda is Museum quality, a spectacular, eclectic mix of pieces from the previous owner, and from the artists of Pojoaque.
Standout features in the Grande Hacienda include its unique water feature in the “Meditation Room”, an Italian inspired courtyard with a Lions head fountain, a grand piano in the great room, and unique breakout spaces, perfect for meetings and retreats. You will also notice a variety of unique and distinguished vigas in all of the many rooms. No two rooms are alike. The upstairs Master bedroom features a beautiful covered balcony that looks over the lions head fountain patio. The views are breathtaking. Discovering the rooms, courtyards, and passageways of the Grand Hacienda is an adventure all by itself. Just ask anyone who has stayed with us.
Ristra Cottage is the first cottage you see was you arrive onto our property. Its pitched red roof is what you might notice initially, but its close location to the Equestrian Center is what makes it so special. All of the horses must pass by Ristra Cottage on their way to the upper stables, and pastures, and on their way to the Main Stable. Your guests that especially love horses, will have an amazing experience while residing at Ristra.
Ristra Cottage features one very large bedroom, with a couch, desk, and two King sized beds. There are two bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen and a cozy, and modern living room with a fireplace. Ristra offers wonderful outdoor space as well. There is a flagstone patio with table and chairs that” in season”, is an explosion of red and pink roses and indigenous flowers from the area. It is also the perfect viewing spot for watching the horses and their trainers pass you by, while you enjoy your morning coffee.
For the guests who are looking for a romantic, whimsical getaway, or someplace all of their own, but just steps away from the Grande Hacienda, we feature Badlands Cottage. Badlands Cottage features one large bedroom with a king-sized bed. There are two full bathrooms, a kitchen, a dining room, and a living room with fireplace. Badlands Cottage features modern Native American art and décor, from the esteemed artists of Pojoaque. It also has a definite touch of romance! The Cottage itself is surrounded by a massive manicured lawn that can be used for events, or for just enjoying the spectacular views of the Barranca Mountains. The cottage also features a large covered warp around “portal” that can host 40 – 50 guests for cocktails, or a seated dinner, and a lovely flagstone patio overlooking the Pool and Mountain range.
Barranca Cottage is aptly named after the Barranca Mountains to which it faces, and has become the preferred residence for families with 3 – 4 small children. It offers stunning views of the red rock Barranca Mountains from its cozy patio, and is only steps away from the Grande Hacienda. The Lions head fountain is right outside its front door. The cottage features a super modern blue and white tiled kitchen, a dining room, a living room with cozy fireplace, and television, two bedrooms, one with a King sized bed, the second with two full sized beds. The cottage has two full bathrooms, and a brand new laundry room. For the many guests that are staying with us for 5 days and more, the washer dryer is a must have! Barranca Cottage has the second-largest collection of art after the Grand Hacienda. The art featured in Barranca is more “Pueblo” and traditional, including large Navajo rugs and pottery throughout the cottage. The cottage itself is a work of art, with traditional vigas, and tile and brick work throughout.
Escondido Cottage is set off from the other four residences, on the far end of our property, offering a” modern southwestern” experience in its décor, and art. The trip from the Grande Hacienda to Escondido is not more than two minutes on a winding dirt road with canopies of cottonwoods, yet you immediately feel miles away from everything. The views from this cottage are extraordinary, with the alfalfa fields looking more like an ocean of green, as seen from its huge wraparound porch, and living room windows.
Sitting on the porch of Escondido, one can see all of the “upper residences”, the Grande Hacienda, Badlands Cottage, and Barranca Cottage, and get a completely different perspective on the property from the foot of the Alfalfa fields. Escondido Cottage offers two bedrooms, one bathroom, a fully equipped kitchen, washer and dryer, a cozy living room with a large television, and fireplace.
Although the Grand Hacienda is the property’s main residential residence, each of the homes at La Mesita Ranch Estate features its own distinct, unique personality, and offers picturesque, and epic views of the property. La Mesita Ranch Estate features a large pool, with pool deck, kitchen and changing rooms, a world class Equestrian center and courtyard, a Grand Lawn for large events, or for a La Crosse, or Soccer, a duck pond and nature preserve, a romantic lawn nestled next to the duck pond, with views of our Mesa, and surrounding mountains, and countless, seemingly endless unique, and beautifully hidden areas to enjoy.
